A Guide to Accumulator Bets

Accumulator bets, often called “accas,” “parlays,” or “multiples,” are a popular form of sports betting where multiple selections are combined into a single bet. To win an accumulator, all of your selections must be successful. The odds for each selection are multiplied together, resulting in potentially large payouts from a small stake. However, the increased reward comes with increased risk. Let’s explore the different types available.

Basic Accumulator (Standard Acca)

This is the most straightforward type. You simply pick two or more selections (e.g., match results, over/under goals, player props) and combine them. The odds are multiplied. For example:

• Selection 1: Team A to win @ 2.0
• Selection 2: Team B to win @ 1.5
• Selection 3: Over 2.5 goals in Match C @ 1.8

Total odds: 2.0 x 1.5 x 1.8 = 5.4. A £10 stake would return £54 (including the original stake).

Double, Treble, Four-Fold & Beyond

These are simply accumulators with a specific number of selections:

• Double: Two selections
• Treble: Three selections
• Four-Fold: Four selections
• And so on…

The higher the number of selections, the greater the potential payout, but also the lower the probability of winning.

Each-Way Accumulator

This adds another layer of complexity. Each selection is backed both to win and to place (usually finishing in the top two or three, depending on the event). It’s essentially multiple accumulators running simultaneously. If any selection wins, you get a return. If any selection places, you get a smaller return based on the place odds. This significantly increases your chances of some return, but also increases the stake;

Patent Accumulator

A Patent consists of seven bets from three selections: all possible singles, all possible doubles, and one treble. This provides coverage, guaranteeing a return if at least one selection wins; It’s more expensive than a standard accumulator, but offers a safety net.

Lucky 15 Accumulator

A Lucky 15 comprises 15 bets from four selections: all possible singles, all possible doubles, all possible trebles, and one four-fold. It offers good coverage and potential for substantial returns. Like the Patent, it’s a higher-stake option.

Yankee Accumulator

A Yankee consists of 11 bets from four selections: all possible doubles, all possible trebles, and one four-fold. It doesn’t include the singles, making it cheaper than a Lucky 15, but requires at least two selections to win to guarantee a profit.

Canadian Accumulator (Super Yankee)

A Canadian is a larger accumulator, consisting of 26 bets from five selections. It includes all possible doubles, trebles, four-folds, and one five-fold. It offers extensive coverage but is a significant financial commitment.

Trixie Accumulator

A Trixie consists of four bets from three selections: all possible doubles and one treble. It’s a smaller, more affordable multiple bet than a Patent or Lucky 15.
